A MASTERPIECE OF INNER CITY LIVING

Jasper Lane in Brisbane’s New Farm that was developed by Turrisi Property and designed by BVN Architecture

received the ‘small to medium density development’ award at the Urban Design Institute of Australia (UDIA)  Qld

awards recently.

According to the jury ‘The standard of finishes and attention to detail throughout the project delivered a

masterpiece of inner city medium density living.’

Jasper Lane is a small inner city community of 12 attached and semi detached houses discreetly located in a quiet

residential street of New Farm in Brisbane.

BVN Principal, Mr Shane Thompson noted the constraints associated with this project included very narrow laneway

access to a tight site behind existing houses.

‘This meant we had to ensure the new houses were not dark and inward looking, so we developed the idea of

connected laneways and courtyards in our designs to overcome these constraints,’ said Mr Thompson.

The result are houses, generally over 3 levels, each with small and large courtyard spaces to the north and south,

with a garage and front door opening onto the laneway.

Timber screening provides both privacy and protection from direct sunlight whilst maintaining a good level of

daylight into all of the houses.

The UDIA jury found that Jasper Lane, ‘created a high standard of living through careful consideration of the

placement and orientation of private spaces, innovative use of materials and adaptation of high quality

architectural design creating a unique residential project.’

This is the third project led by Shane Thompson to be recognised by awards juries recently.  Two others, the Ivy

apartments and two houses Boolarong and Kinkabool have been shortlisted in the World Architecture Festival (WAF)

that is being judged in Barcelona on 3 November.

The UDIA Queensland Awards for Excellence program is one of Queensland’s most respected and valued industry

awards programs. The Awards have been developed specifically by and for the development industry to recognise

excellence and innovation in one of the state’s critical industry groups.  ENDS
