Expert comment on Barak building
In an architectural innovation, a 32-storey apartment block at the north end of
Melbournes CBD will feature the image of Aboriginal leader William Barak across
its sculpted façade.
Baraks face will be sculpted through the light and shade of the buildings white
concrete balconies, in a novel technique that developers claim to be a world first.
Should buildings make social statements?
How have architectural landmarks in Australia and overseas invested social
meaning into their design?
Dr Marcus White is a lecturer in architecture and urban design in RMIT Universitys

landscape.
