Expert comment on Barak building  
 
In an architectural innovation, a 32-storey apartment block at the north end of 
Melbournes CBD will feature the image of Aboriginal leader William Barak across 
its sculpted façade. 
 
Baraks face will be sculpted through the light and shade of the buildings white 
concrete balconies, in a novel technique that developers claim to be a world first.

Dr Marcus White is a lecturer in architecture and urban design in RMIT Universitys 
School of Architecture and Design. 
 
His research has looked at public landmarks and their impact on the urban
