Sustainability in building and design –

Adelaide conference

Cutting edge developments in sustainable design will be the focus of the 6th

annual Green Building & Design Conference, being held in Adelaide this week

(28 – 29 May).

Organised by the Centre for Design at RMIT University with collaborative partner,

the University of South Australia, the conference brings together architects and

other designers, policy makers, consultants, building owners and the building

industry to create a truly cross-disciplinary environment.

Dr Usha Iyer-Raniga, Sustainable Built Environments Manager at the Centre of

Design, said this year’s theme – Solutions through Integrated Design – stressed

the importance of all parties working together from the beginning of a project

through to the end, to achieve the best possible result in sustainability for all

stakeholders.

“More than ever, there is a need to mediate between the interests of the client,

tenants, authorities, professional disciplines and the contractor,” Dr Iyer-Raniga

said.

“All parties need to keep in mind the future development of policies and

regulations, the change in building technology and the necessary shift in the use

of resources.

“We all need to think 10 to 25 years ahead, to create a built environment that will

stand the test of time, not be quickly outdated and in need of extensive

retrofitting.”

Come along and listen to trendsetters, interact with like-minded professionals

and be motivated by the presentation of cutting-edge case studies.

The event, being held at the National Wine Centre of Australia, is sponsored by

the Australian Government Department of the Environment, Water Heritage and

the Arts, the University of South Australia and the Land Management

Corporation.
