Jetstar Named CAPA Low Cost Carrier of the Year – Again!

MELBOURNE, Oct. 31/Medianet International-Asianet/ --

The Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA) has named Jetstar the “CAPA Low Cost Airline of the Year” in

the Asia Pacific region for the second consecutive year.

It is the third time the value-based carrier has won the prestigious aviation award since its operational launch

in May 2004 and subsequent large expansion of both short and long haul low fare services.

Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Bruce Buchanan was in Singapore to accept the award at CAPA’s Gala

Awards Dinner and address the ‘Aviation Outlook Asia’ Conference featuring the Asia Pacific region’s pre-

eminent aviation leaders.

Mr Buchanan said the CAPA award recognised Jetstar’s continued focus on innovations and growth of the

Jetstar brand and product offering.

“Over the last 12 months, we have continued to grow our low fares offering to not only more Australians with

more services and routes, but have introduced the Jetstar low fares brand to new exciting markets in Japan

and Vietnam,” Mr Buchanan said.

“We have invested in new product innovations such as JetSaver Light and Self Service Kiosks which are

delivering a greater and better product to our customers and importantly are consistently delivering the low

fares that are the core of our offering and brand position in the region.

“This award reflects excellence both back of house and front of house. It recognises the work being done

behind the scenes by the team to strategise and negotiate Jetstar’s path into a true Pan Asian carrier and a

formidable partner in the Qantas Group’s two brand strategy.

“It also reflects the highly professional standard of all our front of house staff at airport and in the air who

continue to match our great value with great service.”

Major highlights for Jetstar Australia’s operations during 2008 included:

* Jetstar Australia achieved a record AUD $118 million Profit before Tax (PBT) result for the 2008 financial

year (to 30 June 2008), an increase of 44 per cent on the 2007 financial year.

* Record profit performance during 2008FY with Passenger Revenue (up 32 per cent),  Operating Capacity

(up 44 per cent) arising in particular from the continued expansion of the Jetstar international network and an

industry leading cost base in the Australian market with Cost per Available Seat Kilometre (CASK) reducing

a further 9.3 per cent;

* Launch of Jetstar Pacific in Vietnam in May 2008, Vietnam’s first low cost carrier;

* Announcement and development of Darwin as a new international and domestic flying hub for Jetstar’s

near Asia operations from Australia;

* Successful launches of new product enhancements for Jetstar customers including JetSaver Light

(February 2008), offering the choice to travel for a lower fare with carry on baggage only, Web Check-In and

Self Service Kiosks in key Australian ports;

* Continued evolution of Jetstar.com into a one-stop travel website with continued strong traffic growth as

one of the region’s most popular travel sites;

* First international services from Perth to South East Asia and future trans Tasman growth with the

commencement of Auckland* services from late April 2009.

“Our plans for the future involve the further development of Jetstar as a true pan Asian brand and this will be

supported through the introduction of at least 65 additional A320 family aircraft and a future fleet of 15

Boeing 787 Dreamliners for the Jetstar Group over coming years,” Mr Buchanan said.

“We are again honoured to win this award and we will continue to work hard as an organisation to constantly

improve, innovate and grow our brand.”

CAPA Executive Chairman Peter Harbison said: “Jetstar has demonstrated yet again its value to the Qantas

Group in the past 12 months.”

“Not only did Jetstar contribute handsomely to the Group’s record profitability, it has provided the Group’s

new CEO in Alan Joyce. Given the challenges it has faced due to B787 delays, Jetstar’s focus to expand

short-haul domestic and international flying (including a ground-breaking new venture in Vietnam)

demonstrates the flexibility and nimbleness that are the hallmarks of world leading LCC,” Mr Harbison said.
