MEDIA RELEASE PR37945
Raytheon to Continue Assisting Airports Authority of India in Ongoing Air Traffic Management System
Review
WASHINGTON, Jan. 20, 2010 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ --
Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) will continue to provide assistance to the
Airports Authority of India in its ongoing investigation into the
interruption of the air traffic management system last Thursday at the Indira
Gandhi International Airport. It has already been determined that Raytheon's
AutoTrac II system operated properly in contrast to earlier media reports.
The interruption of the air traffic management system appears to have
been caused by a manual procedural error. Fortunately, Raytheon's AutoTrac
III system, currently in "shadow" mode awaiting implementation at the
airport, was quickly put into service to mitigate the impact on flight
operations.
"The AutoTrac II system has been installed around the world in more than
30 locations and has an excellent performance record," said Andy Zogg,
Raytheon Network Centric Systems vice president for Command and Control. "We
have been working with our customer since the incident occurred to help with
AAI's on-going inquiry and to determine what additional procedural steps can
be taken to prevent future interruptions."
