Severe Weather Alert for National Airways System
Delays of up to 30 minutes are being predicted for air traffic along the east coast of Australia this afternoon.
Adverse weather conditions in south-eastern Australia are expected to cause some flow-on delays nationally.
A combination of unseasonably high temperatures, very strong winds, and reduced visibility due to dust and bushfire smoke are responsible for the delays.
Possible thunderstorms in Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney will also contribute to a reduction in the number of aircraft able to arrive and depart at certain times.
To maintain safe operations Airservices air traffic controllers have adjusted the number of aircraft movements per hour to match the operating conditions.
Friday afternoon is the busiest time for the national airways system.
Passengers are advised to contact their airline for information about specific flights.
