Strategic introduces additional Perth-Derby service

Increased demand for flights between Perth and Derby has led Strategic Airlines to announce the introduction of an additional service on the route, commencing next month.

From 4 August 2010, Strategic will provide the Kimberley community with four services a week, operated by an Airbus A320 offering 12 business class seats and 144 economy seats.

The first Australian carrier to service both the corporate charter and commercial travel markets in Western Australia, Strategic's new flights will depart Perth every Wednesday at 6am, in addition to its current flight schedule of Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Return flights will depart Derby at 9.30am on the same days.

Strategic Airlines' head of commercial, Damien Vasta, said the airline had decided to boost its capacity on the route following a rise in demand since April this year, driven by the continuing rebound in Western Australia's resource sector.

"We have been monitoring uptake on this route, along with the short to medium-term travel needs of the Derby/West Kimberley community," Mr Vasta said.

"Demand is not only stemming from the local community, but also from our corporate partners, who need to provide their personnel with frequent transport services to the Kimberley.

"There is a further need for flights to connect with departures from Perth to other major ports, which the additional service on Wednesdays will provide. This will give our passengers better access to destinations beyond Perth."

Perth-Derby is a licensed route which forms part of the West Australian government's regulated route network.

"The government's decision to continue with the licensing of this route has provided Strategic with the confidence to introduce this additional service the result being more regular connections to Perth for the Derby/West Kimberley community," Mr Vasta said.
