Abigroup awarded Hunter Expressway contract
Abigroup has been awarded the contract to design and construct the western
section of the Hunter Expressway.
The contract was signed today (Friday) at a ceremony at the Roads and Traffic
Authority of NSW (RTA) offices in North Sydney.
The design and construct contract involves the building of 27km of four lane divided
highway between Kurri Kurri and Branxton, 22 bridges and four grade separated
interchanges.
This is a great day for Abigroup, and continues our association with freeway
construction in the Hunter, said Abigroups Managing Director David Jurd.
Were looking forward to starting work on what will be a landmark project for the
Hunter region. The project will reduce travel time and congestion and will create
many local employment opportunities.
The work includes approximately three million cubic metres of earthworks, the
treatment of two mine subsidence areas and will provide employment for over 600
people.
The RTA is working with Abigroup to complete the design work and construction is
due to commence in early 2011 with completion scheduled for the end of 2013.
Once complete it will form part of the new $1.7 billion 40km Hunter Expressway
linking the F3 Freeway at Seahampton to the New England Highway, west of
Branxton.
