Abigroup powers into Top Gear on new section of Pacific Highway
The popular television show, Top Gear Australia,
features the
new 13
kilometre
Karuah to Bulahdelah section of the Pacific Highway in its
season finale, which goes to air on SBS on Monday 10 November.
Abigroup designed, constructed and will maintain the two-lane concrete
race track which was opened to traffic on 31 October, the first of many
stages required to complete the project.
The new 2009 model Nissan GTR nicknamed Godzilla was given a test
drive on the new upgrade. The Top Gear presenters and professional
drivers remarked on the smoothness of the new concrete pavement after
trialling the new Godzilla.
The flat concrete is Gods gift to race cars.
Forget Hoover dam, this is now one of the new engineering wonders of
the world, commented Top Gear presenter Steve Pizzati on the Karuah
to Bulahdelah section of the Pacific Highway.
Top Gear cannot thank Abigroup enough for the use of the new Pacific
highway section of road. The film site and location are the best the
series has experienced, said Top Gear producer Lou Dimovitch.
The Karuah to Buladelah Pacific Highway Upgrade was officially opened
to traffic on Friday 31 October by Parliamentary Secretary Assisting the
Minister for Roads Sonia Hornery and RTA Major Infrastructure Director
Brian Watters. Despite battling wet weather during the project the
team made the milestone the project team had set six months earlier to
complete the works.
Brian Watters paid homage to Abigroup for the successful project,
making special mention of the high standards achieved in safety, quality
of works, environmental performance and a thorough delivery.
The dual carriageway highway is part of the overall upgrade of the
existing Pacific Highway and comprises five twin bridges, two twin arches
and other structures. The new sections will carry a significant amount of
inter-regional traffic in an effort to reduce
freight transport costs,
average travel times and accidents and fatalities.
