Abigroup preferred contractor for Hunter Water Treatment

Program

Abigroup with CH2MHILL has been named preferred contractor for a $200

million program of works with the Hunter Water Corporation. As part of

the Hunter Water Treatment Program Alliance (HWTPA), Abigroup looks

set to upgrade 12 existing sewerage treatment plants and a pipeline

project in the Newcastle region.

“Coming on the back of last week’s announcement as preferred tenderer

for the $1.374 billion Adelaide desalination plant, we are looking forward

to further demonstrating Abigroup’s water experience in the Hunter,” said

Abigroup’s Managing Director David Jurd.

The five year project will draw on Abigroup’s experience both in the

Hunter and in

the water sector.

Abigroup has established a successful

national water business, founded on the leading contractor’s values of

hands-on contracting and innovation.

“Abigroup has extensive expertise in undertaking major water projects in

Australia and has delivered over $1 billion in water infrastructure in the

past two years,” said David Jurd.

The scope of works for the Hunter program includes the design,

construction and commissioning of the plants and pipeline as well as

providing operator training. It is anticipated that work will begin in April

2009.

The HWTPA will offer stimulus to the local area and will create jobs.

Abigroup is currently undertaking several projects in the Newcastle region

including three contracts (worth approximately $91 million) for the

Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group and has recently commenced rail

works on the Maitland to Branxton bi-directional re-signalling program.

Abigroup is also currently undertaking $160 million of works on the

Newcastle Mater Hospital as well as Pacific Highway upgrades from Karuah

to Bulahdelah. Many employees on these existing projects are from the

Hunter area.

Abigroup is a national contractor with almost 50 years experience

undertaking works in building; roads; water storage, treatment

and infrastructure; mining; tunnels; bridges and

telecommunications. Abigroup is part of Bilfinger Berger Australia

which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bilfinger Berger AG, one of

the world’s top ten multi-service construction companies.
