Construction Workers at Risk on our Roads this Christmas
The risk of tragedy on Victorias roads this Christmas will be heightened by
the high levels of road construction set to take place over the holiday period.
Holidaymakers are urged to take extra care when traveling through
construction zones en route to their summer vacation, with some construction
sites opening immediately after the Boxing Day holiday.
Construction workers have families too
is the message from the Civil
Contractors Federation this Christmas
Bob Seiffert, Chief Executive, CCF
(Vic) said today
Mr. Seiffert said the high level of construction work along major destination
roads and popular alternate routes would inevitably expose the motoring
public to construction workers.
At this time of the year we often see drivers travel long distances in areas
that they are unfamiliar with, and at times when they are inexperienced.
Drivers traveling with children are
often also distracted which, when
combined with high speeds, can be a recipe for disaster. Mr. Seiffert said.
We just ask drivers to remain alert around construction sites. Be wary that
they are, in fact, workplaces for thousands of young
men and women who
may not be enjoying a
break this summer,
but certainly have families and
loved ones to go home to.
Just think how much safer and quicker the journey will be next year when the
hard work has been finished Mr. Seiffert said.
