Correction regarding cable claim
Claims by Optus in Friday’s Gold Coast Bulletin are incorrect, says
Abigroup’s Construction Manager Neil Silversides.
The marker post in the Optus photo details a cable located 17.8 metres
from the post, whereas, in fact, the fibre optic cable was located just two
metres from this post.
“The photo provided by Optus to the media shows our excavation just two
metres from the marker post,” said Neil Silversides. “The marker post did
not identify the location of the fibre optic cable that was in fact only two
metres away, despite our extensive investigations which included the use
of an accredited Utility Locator, as well as a site review by an Optus
representative.”
Gold Coast City Council and Abigroup use ‘best practice’ procedures to
determine the location of underground services and are continuing their
investigations.
