$590 million for more than 2,000 new homes for Western Australians
Parliamentary Secretary for Western Australia, the Hon. Gary Gray AO MP is
encouraging local builders, carpenters, electricians, plumbers and other
tradespeople to consider being part of the Australian Governments historic
$590 million investment in social housing for WA.
To support jobs and invest in the long term future of the Australian economy and the
Australian community, the Rudd Government will fund the construction of over 2,000
new homes in WA.
The Government will deliver this massive work in stages, with most of the work to be
tendered out via the State Government. Most of the homes need to be finished by
December 2010.
This is a huge opportunity for WA tradies to be a part of this nation building
exercise, which will build homes for Australians who are homeless or on low incomes
struggling in the private rental market said Mr Gray.
The Australian Government is investing $6.4 billion over the next few years in social
housing, a key element of the Governments $42 billion Nation Building and Jobs
Plan.
The bulk of the spending - $5.3 billion - will be for new construction projects
identified by State and Territory Governments through a competitive process. This
will include building projects already underway but undersold, or high quality private
sector developments that have stalled for lack of finance.
Local builders are asked to contact their peak body such as Property Council of
Australia, Master Builders of Australia or the Housing Industry Association, for more
information about the spending package.
Inquiries can also be made to my office, by calling (08) 9527 9377.
