Industry group gives RMIT degrees the thumbs-up

The US-based Project Management Institute has endorsed two RMIT University

postgraduate degree programs, confirming their global profile.

With more than half a million members and credential holders in more than 170

countries, the PMI claims to be the leading membership association for the project

management profession.

A recent meeting of the PMI Global Accreditation Center for Project Management

(GAC) Board voted to accredit two programs offered by RMIT’s School of Property,

Construction and Project Management.

The degree programs are Doctor of Project Management (DPM) and Master of

Project Management (MPM).

Professor Ron Wakefield, Head of School, said: “For the School to receive

accreditation from the world’s leading association for the project management

profession, indicates our programs are performing at the highest standards.”

The DPM is a PhD program for which about one-third of the coursework in the

program is delivered on-line.

The GAC Board said: “A key strength of the DPM is its close alignment with project

management practice. Program entry requirements include a relevant masters

degree and a minimum of eight years of relevant project management experience.

“The program is undertaken on-line, with a one-week residential component during

the first year of the program. Estimated completion time is four to 4.5 years of study

if working full time.”

The MPM program brings together participants from a wide range of backgrounds,

all of whom are interested in developing their knowledge and skills relative to project

management.

The program is delivered face-to-face on RMIT’s City campus. Applicants must

have a first degree as well as five years of relevant experience. Estimated

completion time of the program is two years if working full time.

“The GAC wishes to congratulate and acknowledge the effort that was expended on

this distinctive accomplishment. Programmatic accreditation through PMI GAC

confirms that the scale and quality of an institution’s project management degree

program conforms to a comprehensive international standard,” the Board said.
