Lightweight paving on balconies, roof tops and more
Sydney, June 11 - On building structures where weight bearing load needs to be
minimised, being able to pave without using heavy bedding sand or screeds is an
important advantage.
By making this possible, VersiPave
®
GP, Elmich Australia Pty Ltds high strength
adjustable plastic paver supports have been met with acclaim by construction and
landscape engineers in Australia and overseas.
Because VersiPave
®
GP enables pavers to be installed without the need for sand or
screeds, it is perfect for roof tops, balconies or decks where weight minimisation is a
priority, said David Oliver, Elmichs Managing Director. Whats more, because it is
stable and secure without needing to be adhered or fixed into place mechanically, it is
easy to access service cables or pipes laid underneath. The waterproofing membrane can
also be reached very simply, should leaks subsequently occur.
At Transport House in Sydney, VersiPave
®
GP was specified by Aurecon and installed by
Sam The Paving Man on a 1,200m² rooftop area. VersiPave®GP was specified because
it reduced the weight on this large refurbished roof area by eliminating the need for sand
or cement screeds. In addition, VersiPave
®
GP creates an air gap between the paver and
the insulation board, thereby improving thermal and acoustic insulation, said Stephen
Cooper from Aurecon.
Made from 100% recycled plastics, VersiPave
®
GP is lightweight but strong enough to
support a 2,400 kg load.
The beauty of VersiPave
®
GP is that it is also able to adjust for falls in the roof slab or
for variations in the thickness of the pavers. Each pedestal has four integrated raised
chocks which can be adjusted in 1 mm increments, from 24 to 35 mm, said David
Oliver. Furthermore, 10 mm and 30 mm snap on extenders are available that can raise
the height of the paving base up to 150 mm. This can be extremely useful in allowing
the paved surface to be level with door openings, for example.
VersiPave
®
GP ensures pavers are unaffected by mould or algae, and efflorescence is
eliminated as pavers are not embedded in sand or screeds.
Rapid drainage, facilitated by VersiPave
®
GP, substantially reduces weight bearing loads
on building structures.
Poolside at the Mirvac Apartment Complex at Burswood in Perth, VersiPave
®
GP enables
wet surfaces to drain freely, promoting safety.
The 4mm tabs on each VersiPave
®
GP unit ensure that once installed, the pavers dont
move and water drainage is promoted, said Sam Harb, Managing Director of Sam the
Paving Man. The integrated chocks on VersiPave
®
GP allow us to cater for falls in slabs in
any direction so that the resulting paved surface is level.
VersiPave®GP is suitable for rooftops, decks, balconies, swimming pool surrounds, water
features, courtyards, patios and more. Each VersiPave
®
GP unit can be sectioned into
halves or quarters to fit along edges and corners.
VersiPave
®
GP offers many advantages for commercial and domestic installations, said
David Oliver. By eliminating the weight of heavy sand and cement screeds, allowing
superior drainage and ease of access to underlying service cables and waterproofing
membranes, VersiPave
®
GP is a highly effective choice in both the short and long term
for many applications.
