Statement by Mr Wilhelm Harnisch, Chief Executive Officer

Master Builders Australia, in conjunction with the Australian Made Campaign announced the 2009 National Export Awards winners at Master Builders' National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards presentation dinner held at Conrad Jupiters on the Gold Coast on 7 November.


Mr Wilhelm Harnisch, Master Builders Chief Executive said, "Australian contractors and product manufacturers are being recognised as delivering quality and excellence as designers, manufacturers and professional service providers in the global building and construction village. They are beating fierce competition throughout the world. These firms are making their mark in an ever increasing number of markets across the world."

"Master Builders has formed a corporate partnership with the Australian Made Campaign to aggressively promote Australian exports. The Campaign has sponsored the Master Builders International Division for the last seven years and the Campaign's members use the Australian Made brand in over 30 countries as a vital and highly visible marketing tool."

This year's winners were:

Australian Turntable Company - This innovative Australian-owned family business provides specialist engineering solutions in the rotational movement sector. Since 1987 the Bendigo company has grown from a husband and wife operation to now employing over 20 people and leading the world in very precise revolving technology. Australian Turntable is now led by a young but experienced family management team with present markets in France, Iran, Iraq, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Oman, Singapore and New Zealand. Exceptionally quick lead times and precision engineering allows the company deliver major projects internationally, including the world's largest revolving restaurant in the 450 metre high Milad Tower in Tehran, Iran.

E.W. Cox International - EW Cox is at the forefront of exterior faade access technology, designing and manufacturing unique solutions for projects not only in Australia, but also throughout much of the world. The company has had to overcome many obstacles, including technical and commercial risks associated with designing complex machines, relocating engineers to targeted overseas markets as well as the establishment of branch offices in those cities. Despite all the hurdles, the vision of cleaning the world's tallest iconic structures with Australian designed and manufactured products has become a reality.

Waterman AHW - This company's field of consulting engineering expertise for construction projects includes air-conditioning, ventilation, power, lighting, fire safety, hydraulics, lifts, escalators, security and surveillance communications, and ecologically sustainable design. Waterman has a strong foothold in a number of international markets including the Middle East, Russia, Kazakhstan and Africa. The export success of the business is evidenced by its ability to show a continued improvement in 2008/09 over the previous year. This was exceptional given the global financial crisis.

Hooker Cockram - Hooker Cockram specialises in constructing high-tech projects with a niche in the health, biotech and pharmaceutical industry. With its head office in Melbourne, Hooker Cockram have experienced continued growth in China and have widened their international markets with new projects including King Hamad General Hospital in Bahrain and Pharmacia Nicorette in Puerto Rico. The 117,000 square metre Dow R&D Centre in Shanghai is the largest project completed by Hooker Cockram to date. It comprises chemical, heavy and analytical laboratories, administration areas and staff facilities.
