Master Builders National Apprentice of the Year

Statement by Mr Wilhelm Harnisch, Chief Executive Officer

Master Builders Australia announced the 2009 winner of the National Apprentice of the Year Award at its National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards at a gala dinner at Conrad Jupiters on the Gold Coast on Saturday 7 November 2009. The Award was proudly sponsored by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations/Australian Apprenticeships.

Paul Gaffy from Western Australia was chosen as Master Builders Australia's 2009 National Apprentice of the Year from a field of Australia's top apprentices.

Mr Wilhelm Harnisch, Master Builders Australia's Chief Executive said, "Australia's apprentices are continuing to display exciting skills that will enable them to develop into tomorrow's Master Builders."

"My congratulations go to Paul on becoming Master Builders Australia's National Apprentice of the Year. Best wishes to Paul for a long and successful career," Mr Harnisch said.

Paul Gaffy, who is employed by Tooltime Construction Pty Ltd in Western Australia, is nearing the end of his carpentry and joinery apprenticeship. Paul has completed his academic training with distinction and is highly regarded by his lecturers. He has undertaken work in the residential sector covering all project stages while completing additional studies in Project Management. Paul is also a fine athlete having competed successfully in the World Championships in China in track and field. Paul's employer has commented that, whilst they have had many apprentices, Paul stands out as the best. He is a respected member of the team and highly valued by sub contractors and clients alike. He is a fine role model for the industry.
