More private houses approved this month.
ABS Building Approvals show that the number of approvals for private sector houses rose 3.1% in
December 2009 following a fall last month.
Victoria (+4.6%), Queensland (+2.2%) South Australia (+0.5%) and Western Australian (+3.3%)
recorded more private sector house approvals this month according to the ABS.
The number of dwellings approved in Australia rose 2.2% with Tasmania (+21.7%) and Victoria
(+11.1%) recording the largest increases.
There was a rise in the number of approvals for private sector dwellings other than houses (+9.1%)
this month.
The value of total building approved fell 3.7% in December. Non-residential building approvals
(-9.4%) also fell. However, the value of approved new residential buildings increased by 3.0%.
