QBE LMI to return to Bidwill with close to 100 employees

6 October 2010 - QBE LMI will again be supporting Habitat for Humanity by participating in the third

annual Bidwill Blitz Build, set to take place next month. As the foundation sponsor, QBE LMI will provide

valuable support to the project through the contribution of around 100 employees who have eagerly

volunteered to get their hands dirty and help build a Habitat home.

The impressive feat will take place from the 18th to 28th October in Bidwill, Western Sydney and the

building challenge will see everyone come together to construct a new home in only 10 days for a well

deserving Sydney family. The Akout family migrated to Australia as refugees from war-torn Sudan in

search of stability and a better life for their five daughters (aged 2-11).

A QBE LMI volunteer, Jenny Boddington, Head of Risk & Operations said, “This will be my second

team build and I’m grateful that QBE LMI’s partnership with Habitat for Humanity Australia allows me to

give something back to the community. The number of QBE LMI volunteers for build days has

increased year on year, with teams marking the days as a valuable team building exercise. By

committing to this initiative, my team and I hope to help the Akout family achieve the long held dream of

owning their own home.”

Ian Graham, CEO of QBE LMI said, “We are passionate about our partnership with Habitat for

Humanity Australia. There are many Australians who are desperate to own their own home, but the

reality is that affordability is simply out of their reach. Through our support of the Bidwill Blitz Build, we

complement our broader role as mortgage insurers, by encouraging the affordability of housing for

Australian families.”

Habitat for Humanity builds houses in partnership with low-income families who would not otherwise be

able to qualify for home ownership through a conventional housing loan. QBE LMI has supported

Habitat for Humanity since 2001 and throughout this partnership has built many homes and dedicated

over 1200 hours of volunteer work.
