Australias peak export body appoints a new National
President.
The directors of The Australian Institute of Export appointed Loftus Harris AM
National President. Loftus who assumed the role on 1st
January comes with a
wealth of
experience in trade policy, negotiation and facilitation. Outgoing
President Michael Johnson who occupied the position for almost five years said
the appointment of Loftus at a time of strong development particularly in the
field of representing exporters to Government is important and timely. In
addition to his Institute role, Loftus sits on the boards of several companies in
NSW, Victoria and Queensland as a non-executive director, and holds the
appointment of Queensland Special Trade Representative to the Middle East
and India. He was Director General of the NSW Department of State and
Regional Development for 10 years until late 2007, and, prior to that, of the
Queensland Department of the Premier, Economic and Trade Development. He
was responsible for government programs covering trade, investment,
innovation, tourism, major events and regional economic development. He was
a Trade Commissioner for 15 years, serving in West Africa, Asia, Scandinavia,
Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. Loftus is a Fellow of the Australian
Institute of Company Directors. Loftus said he looks forward to working with the
Institute board and team in their endeavour to develop the export skills of
Australian business.
