Nurses and carers employed at Bupa Wodonga to begin

implementing protected industrial action over wage offer

Australian Nursing Federation (Victorian Branch) staff will today meet with nurses and personal care workers (PCWs)

employed at Bupa aged care facility at Wodonga, to begin implementing protected industrial action after their

employer failed to meet an agreement with their union on a new Enterprise Agreement.

The action was overwhelmingly supported by nurses and carers and is approved by Fair Work Australia.

The ANF (Victorian Branch) has been negotiating with Bupa Australia, including conciliation conferences in Fair Work

Australia (FWA), but has failed to reach agreement on several key issues, including wages and length of the

Enterprise Agreement.

Bupa has unilaterally determined to put an Agreement to a ballot of all employees next week.

The ANF (Victorian Branch) is apprehensive that the staff at Bupa may be under pressure to cast a vote in relation to

the Ballot that may not reflect their wishes.

ANF members and all people involved with the care of residents at Bupa Wodonga will have an apprehension as to

the continued commitment of Bupa to provide existing levels of care to the frail and elderly residents at Wodonga –

this is something that is untenable, unacceptable and unreasonable for members of our community.

ANF staff will hold meetings with Registered nurses and PCWs at Bupa Wodonga today to explain why they should

reject the current Agreement being proposed by Bupa.

The ANF (Vic Branch) estimates that PCWs will lose more than $4500 each in wages under the proposed Bupa offer.

Relations Organiser Judith Milne will be meeting with nurses and PCWs.
