Canberra Cleaners Protest Today: 8:30am at CSIRO Entrance Gates Barry Drive
8 December 2009
ACT cleaners will protest this morning at the refusal of cleaning contractor Broadlex Clean Australia to sign on to the Clean Start Collective Agreement.
Lyndal Ryan, ACT Branch Secretary of LHMU, the cleaners' union says "The Clean Start Collective Agreement is the new industry standard for contract cleaning. It's not fair that cleaners employed by Broadlex at CSIRO are missing out on better wages and conditions of Clean Start.
"Cleaners will be protesting today to let Broadlex know that Canberra cleaners won't give up the fight until cleaners at the CSIRO have the benefits enjoyed by the majority of cleaners in the ACT.
"As the festive season fast approaches, this is the perfect time for Broadlex to show some goodwill by signing on to Clean Start.
"An earlier protest planned for this morning to support cleaners employed by Spotless Services at ANU has been cancelled. Spotless has agreed to sign on to the Clean Start Collective Agreement.
"Yesterday Spotless did the right thing. Let's hope the spirit of Christmas is spreading and that Broadlex also signs on to Clean Start so CSIRO cleaners can also enjoy some Christmas cheer," says Lyndal Ryan.
