SYMBION WORKERS TO STRIKE OVER PAY OFFER
Warehouse workers at one South Australias leading pharmaceutical distributors will
walk off the job tomorrow following a breakdown in employment contract negotiations.
Members of the National Union of Workers will commence protected strike action from
6.00am (Friday 11 December 2009) in order to achieve a new agreement with their
employer, Symbion Pharmacy Services.
NUW Senior Industrial Officer Paul Richardson said it was disappointing members
needed to take strike action to try to secure a decent wage outcome.
The company has attended several meetings with the Union but has failed to offer an
improvement in its position, Mr Richardson said.
The strike action could threaten the supply of prescription medicines to chemists and
hospitals.
Members are reluctant to take this action, but the company has left us no choice, Mr
Richardson said.
The companys pay offer is unacceptable. It wont even cover the ever increasing cost
of living.
Mr Richardson said the company was offering warehouse workers a paltry two percent
wage increase over 15 months.
Symbion Pharmacy Services is one of Australias leading pharmaceutical wholesalers.
Members will assemble at the rear of the company premises located at Sherriffs Road,
Underdale from 6.00am.
