LEADING ARCHITECTS ANNOUNCED TO WORK ON

DESIGNS FOR METRO STATIONS

Sydney Metro today announced some of Sydney’s top architecture and design

practitioners will participate in Station Design Principles Workshops to help shape the

look and feel of Pyrmont and Rozelle metro stations.

A Sydney Metro spokesperson said the three design teams include members who

have worked on major projects involving some major Sydney landmarks, including

Sydney Olympic Park, the Conservatorium and Conservatorium of Music High School,

Hyde Park North and the Mint on Macquarie Street.

“The first of two workshops, held tomorrow (Tuesday), will bring together the design

teams with around 40 peak, professional and community groups to develop a ‘brief’

from which the teams will design three different visions for the stations,” the

spokesperson said.

“The teams will then have until 10 November to prepare drawings of their designs

which will be shown and discussed at the second workshop. The outcome of the

process will be a set of design principles.”

The architects and artists selected to take part in the workshops are:

The spokesperson said Sydney Metro was delighted that some of the top experts in

their fields had agreed to take part in the workshops.

“These designs will test the design principles for the stations before they are finalised

and provided to the station design and construction contractor.

“Rozelle and Pyrmont are village-like locations and there is strong interest in how the

stations will fit into the streetscape. It is important to ensure that the design takes into

account the community’s vision and the workshops will result in a clear direction for the

contractors.”

The sample designs and design principles will be published on the Sydney Metro

website.

Details of the design teams and previous projects are attached overleaf.
