MEDIA RELEASE

Thurs 21 Oct 2010

National Architecture Week Melbourne

launches this Sunday

(Sun 24 October – Sat 30 October)

National Architecture Week Melbourne is a city-wide festival that explores your city,

your home and your architecture. There are many people who help shape our city. This

week, they come together to celebrate architecture and how it can contribute to a better,

more sustainable Melbourne.

The theme for 2010 is the 'home', a simple but changing idea in a modern Australian city.

The festival is an initiative of the Australian Institute of Architects, the peak Australian body

for architects. 'The Institute', as it’s fondly called by its members, believes that architects

and design solutions have an important role in meeting future challengers of our city and our

environment. We’d like to share these ideas during Architecture Week.

The week will include a wide range of activities such as:

?

Ask an Architect Free 20 minute consultations with architects

?

Pecha Kutcha - an informal talkfest (the name is Japanese for ‘chit chat’) where

creative people get together to share ideas. A fast-paced format - each speaker

shows 20 images, with only 20 seconds per image. The topic is “What can

architecture contribute.” Speakers will include Peter Maddison (Grand Designs

Australia) and Nonda Katsalidis.

?

LEGO for little architects

?

Architectural Walking Tours

?

Jane and Mark Burry Book Launch

?

Stuart Harrison Book Preview

?

Great Home Apartments talk

?

And much more.
