QVB Fit-out Fuses Heritage With Designer Styles

Sydney City QVB heritage buildings newest shop will be an intriguing combine of legacy Sydney architecture and sleek European styling. Bristol & Brooks will begin trading their prestigious designer gifts range from within the new fusion fit-out from mid-March 2010.

A reputation for stylish elegance is something the Queen Victoria Building and Bristol & Brooks share in common. The major reshape of their new store in Sydney's heritage-listed QVB fuses its beauty with their own trademark style. The design concept is truly simple with highly refined lines and only a few feature elements to draw customers into the space, focusing attention on the range of designer and corporate gifts.

"As the building is a heritage building we had to be sensitive to retaining as much of the detailing as possible, such as the framed arched timber, and rose windows to the rear" notes store owner, Jason Bogatai. In addition a number of constraints were considered, such as the air conditioning and building services bulkhead which has been cleverly incorporated within the design.

The store centrepiece - a large suspended ply pendant situated over the cash desk - makes the most of the traditional high ceilings typical of the QVBs architectural period. The central floor display table is green polyurethane featuring the most valuable and unique products, distinguished from the white wall display units. The overall scheme is light in colouration, white being the predominant colour. The introduction of white washed oak floor boards and soft neutrals tones such as olive, yellow and the use of ply help to create warmth and an overall ambience of a Nordic interior.

Discussions between the various parties concerned in the design of the new store began in earnest in October 2009. After extensive research and preliminary drawings, designer Penelope Ward from Foster & Associates has designed the quintessential retail outlet to highlight the extensive and eclectic range of gift ideas that Bristol & Brooks have to offer.

Bristol & Brooks is synonymous with offering both creative and stylish design at an affordable price from around the world, stocking brands at the forefront of contemporary design: Alessi, Nuance, Menu, Stelton, Corban & Blair, Dosh Wallets, Moleskine, PlaySam, Phillipi, BuiltNY, Suck UK & Black + Blum. The brand new store opens in QVB mid-March 2010.
