Thursday 14 January 2010: Virgin Blue has announced additional capacity and improved schedules for Hobart
from 29 March, when the airlines’ new winter schedule commences.
The rescheduled Hobart-Sydney flight will depart at 6.25am and arrive in Sydney at 8.15am while the last evening
service will leave Sydney at 6.30pm
and touch down back in Hobart at 8.25pm.
The aircraft and crew will then
overnight in Hobart. The changes mean it will be easier to fly from Hobart to Sydney and back for a full day round
trip due to new timings on the early morning flight.
Virgin Blue will also introduce a third daily flight in the middle of the day to cater for the tourism market for those
who prefer a more leisurely flight.
Brett Godfrey, Virgin Blue Airlines Group Chief Executive, said, “The decision to increase capacity on this route and
bring back the overnight to allow for an early departure is the result of ongoing support from the Hobart business
community in particular and the continuing demand for tourists flying in and out of Hobart. Tasmania, indeed
Hobart, stands firm as one of our key leisure destinations for visitors from the mainland, for short breaks as well
as extended nature and Gourmet food/wine based visits.”
