The future of leather used in the aviation industry will never be the same again, with the release of SupaLite from Yarwood Leather.

Created in partnership with Pittards, SupaLite combines market-leading leather manufacturing expertise with world-class engineering know-how and exploits the latest developments in chemical and process technology. This chemical technology acts at molecular level and together with a series of innovative manufacturing processes, makes SupaLite durable, yet remarkably light. SupaLite subsequently creates a luxurious passenger experience and is ideal for other cabin applications.

Weighing in at just 390g/m2, SupaLite is 30 percent lighter than other, so called, lightweight leathers and 50% lighter than standard aviation grade leathers. On many of the world's commercial airlines, this will mean a reduction in weight of over 1kg per seat, massive savings in fuel costs and lower carbon emissions. Take for example flying on a fully laden 747-400 between Amsterdam Schipol (AMS) and Bangkok, Don Muang (DMK), SupaLite could enable airlines to carry 7 more passengers, 13 more Ikea Billy flat pack bookcases or prevent up to 7000kg CO2 entering the environment.

Using the same textile technology employed in fire fighting and professional motor racing, SupaLite meets and surpasses the most stringent flammability tests. SupaLite passes the strict requirements of Airbus ABD0031 with regard to Smoke Emissions & Toxicity and Heat Release, whilst achieving class-leading results on the vertical flame tests.
