Abigroup secures three contracts for Newcastle Coal Terminal

Abigroups range of capabilities has proved a boon for the Newcastle Coal
Infrastructure Group (NCIG) and its implementation of a much needed
new coal export terminal. Abigroup is undertaking not one but three
contracts for NCIG which comprises BHP Billiton, Centennial Coal,
Donaldson Coal, Peabody Energy, Felix Resources and Whitehaven Coal.

Abigroup will undertake earthworks, the construction of concrete
structures and the provision of rail and signalling. As a tier one
multidisciplinary company with expertise both in rail/mining infrastructure
and in the Hunter region, Abigroup is well placed to undertake the scope
of work in the three contracts for NCIG, said Abigroups Director of
Operations David Jurd.

The new coal export terminal will be located at Kooragang Island in
Newcastle and is designed with the capacity for future expansion. The
establishment of the terminal, which comes on the back of severe
bottlenecks, will significantly improve export flow. Once completed the
third coal export terminal in Newcastle will be the largest single stage
development of a new coal terminal in the world.

Abigroup commenced work on the first contract for earthworks in
September 2008. The $46 million project involves two million cubic
metres of earthworks comprising rail loop formation earthworks and
drainage, stockyard berms and road works. The second contract worth
$33 million includes a 25 span rail viaduct, a single span rail bridge, a
dump station structure and a conveyor tunnel. Abigroup will also
undertake rail and signal work ($12 million) comprising track work and
signaling design and installation.
Abigroup is able to undertake a variety of rail projects by offering a one
stop shop to clients which utilises Abigroups suite of capabilities ranging
from roads, bridges, water, mining and building, said David Jurd.
Abigroups rail group consists of skilled rail professionals and is able to
utilise its own rail plant equipment. This enables the company to negotiate
a variety of contracts with rail and mining clients. Abigroups rail plant
equipment is registered to work on the entire ARTC network and within
the NSW RailCorp network. The companys new tamping machine has
completed its first assignment and is now working south of Sydney
maintaining mainline and siding tracks.

Abigroup Contractors is one of Australias leading engineering and
building companies. Works are undertaken in areas including
health, residential, retail, educational, leisure and  commercial
building and roads, bridges, dams, rail, water, telecommunications
and mining infrastructure. Abigroup is a wholly owned subsidiary
of Bilfinger Berger AG, one of the worlds top ten construction
